access“通道，入口”，例：the only access to the ¹ is across the field.唯一能够来到这个农场的途径是穿过这片田野。access is denied禁止进入。deny动词“拒绝给予，否认”，如deny a statement否认了一个声明，我们还知道一个标准的套句there is no denying the fact that... 毫无疑问

have access to有途径（接触，使用，接近），例：i have access to the ² (classified) information我有条件能够接触到非常机密的信息。confidential“绝密的”。例：the poor children should have access to the good library. 贫困的孩子应该有途径使用好的图书馆 only high officials have access to the president.只有高的官员能够接触到总统。

词根cess = ced = ceed go

先来回忆一下曾经讲过的表示go的词根：

gress，如progress“进步”，regress“退步，退化”，egress“出口”，aggressive“攻击性的”，aggression“进攻，侵略”，congress“国会，会议”

现在再讲cess

access = ac（to） cess（go）“.通道，入口”

process=pro（forward） cess（go）“过程，工序”，如a new process for making steel制造钢材新的工序

course“过程（时间）”，如during my course of life 在我整个生命的过程。

excess=ex（out） cess（go）“过度，过分”，例：there is an excess of violence in this film这部电影有过多的暴力场景。

其形容词为excessive“过度的，过分的”，如excessive demand过度的需求，modest“适度的”。

其副词形式为excessively

concession=con（together） cess（go） ion大家一起向后走一走，“让步”，例：employers made ³ to the workers in ⁴.这些雇主在与工人的谈判中做出了让步。

同义词compromise=com（together） promise（承诺）名词&动词“妥协，折中”

词根ced=go

precede =pre ced（go） ev走到前面去了，“先于……”，例：the flash of lightning preceded the sound of thunder. 闪电先于雷声（lightning“闪电”，而lighten“照亮”)

其形容词preceding“先前的”，如preceding page上一页

同义词previous=pre（之前） vi（路） ous，如previous experience先前的经验

词根vi=路，如：

via介词“经，由”，例：i flew to hk via beijing我途经北京飞往香港。

deviate=de（off） vi（路） ate“偏离（正常，原定的路线）”，如deviate from one’s plan / principles / usual flying path偏离了某人的计划 / 原则 / 飞行路线

接着讲词根ced

precedent=pre（之前） ced（go） ent（人）走在前面的人，“先例”

recede=re（back） ced（go） e向后走，“后退”，例：the tide ⁵ to the distance. 潮水退向了远方。

同义regress“退步，退化”

最后一个词根ceed=go

proceed=pro（forward） ceed（go）“继续进行”，例：the project is ⁶ according to the plan.依照计划工程继续进行。

exceed动词“超过”尤指数量上超过，例：the cost will exceed $1000.成本将超过1000美金。the result of the competition exceeded our expectation.比试的结果超过了我们的预期值。

同义词surpass动词“超过”，如surpass sb. in speed / strength在速度 / 力量方面超过某人
